She grew up in Olathe, Kansas and attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas for her undergraduate degree, where she graduated cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology. She attended medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, Kansas.
