These brain-healthy habits and fun brain workouts can help, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Play a Musical Instrument (Or Learn a Song by Heart)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learning and practicing a musical instrument <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/john-rampton\/the-benefits-of-playing-music-help-your-brain-more.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improves memory and mental alertness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has been shown to change brain structure and function for the better. It also strengthens multisensory skills and increases blood flow in the left hemisphere of the brain. Using your vocal instrument can be great for your brain, too. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/health-and-families\/health-news\/singing-boosts-brain-activity-in-alzheimer-s-patients-scientists-say-8933021.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singing has been shown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve memory, thinking skills, and mood in early-stage Alzheimer\u2019s patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Learn Something New<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The benefits of learning on the brain aren\u2019t limited to music. Similar studies of athletes who play <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbur.org\/cognoscenti\/2014\/06\/10\/soccer-brain-jeffrey-holt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fast-moving ball sports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014like soccer, or basketball\u2014have shown the extent to which these disciplines can affect the brain\u2019s capacity and wiring.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Be Artsy-Craftsy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We tend to think of crafts like knitting or quilting as relaxing hobbies or enriching creative outlets. And they are that. But <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2016\/01\/25\/the-health-benefits-of-knitting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studies suggest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that they also promote good cognitive health and may help to reduce memory loss later in life. What\u2019s more, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/03\/25\/health\/brain-crafting-benefits\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">creative arts of all kinds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been shown to be natural antidepressants, and to have mental health benefits similar to those of meditation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Explore the Outdoors<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hancockhealth.apgar.digital\/ja\/2017\/05\/beyond-the-dreadmill-how-to-stay-active-outside-the-gym\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">benefits to outdoor exercise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
