Caring Community Partners

Examples of CCP activities include assisting with holistic medical care, construction or reconstruction of medical facilities, preventative health education, and medication delivery. Partners train on the job, learning skills as they go. Hancock Regional Hospital provides some measure of financial support, and other community partners provide or raise the remainder.

The CCP program concept came from a desire to assist the victims of the December 2004 tsunami in Asia. In partnership with the Fellowship Associates of Medical Evangelism (FAME), we formed a mission team that traveled to Andrah Pradesh, India, in September 2005.

Soon after, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. Our CCP program assisted with cleanup and constructed the Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

In 2010, nine hospital associates traveled to Haiti to provide aid following a devastating earthquake. And in February 2012, a small team went to India for the dedication of a new hospital and nurse-training facility that bears the Hancock name. We have completed many full medical relief trips since then.

We’re involved with many local projects, too, including helping an associate move and repairing and rebuilding a wheelchair ramp at the Girl Scout House. CCP participates annually in a United Way Day of Caring project, volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, and assists whenever possible as additional projects and needs arise.

What began with a handful of volunteers in 2005 has now grown to include more than 175 hospital associates and community volunteers. Including all missions and local efforts, our volunteers have put in nearly 35,000 hours—and there’s still lots more good work to do!

To facilitate opportunities for hospital associates to use their personal and professional skills in partnership with other community members to improve the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health of underserved people in Hancock County and beyond.
